Hazard Mitigation Plan (HMP) Update
In updating the 2018 Cumberland Plateau Planning District Commission (PDC) Hazard Mitigation Plan (HMP), our company completed a comprehensive set of tasks designed to enhance regional safety and reduce long-term risks. We initiated the process by organizing a steering committee and working group to ensure representation from key stakeholders across the Virginia counties of Buchanan, Dickenson, Russell, and Tazewell, as well as the towns of Grundy, Clinchco, Clintwood, Haysi, Cleveland, Honaker, Lebanon, Bluefield, Cedar Bluff, Pocahontas, Richlands, and Tazewell.
Our team conducted a thorough assessment of regional hazards, identifying and prioritizing risks that could impact the communities served by the PDC. This involved updating hazard and risk identification, as well as conducting vulnerability and capability assessments to understand the current state of preparedness and response capabilities.
We developed targeted strategies aimed at reducing identified risks and vulnerabilities, ensuring that the plan not only meets FEMA HMP requirements but also aligns with the specific needs of the region. This FEMA and VDEM approved plan solidified the resilience of the Cumberland Plateau Planning District and its communities against future hazards.
